Checking and Changing Links

There are various ways you can use Help Center Manager to check and change Links.

  • From Help Center Manager, you can open the linked article in Zendesk Help Center and make any changes to the article in Zendesk.
  • You can display the URL of the link from the Links pane, and open the linked article from there.
  • You can open an article that holds the link and make changes to the link in Zendesk.
  • You can use the Change Link URL function. When a link is used in more than one article, this changes the URL in all the articles in which it is used.
  • You can change the Link Text that shows for a link in a specific article.

Displaying the URL of a Link and Opening the Linked Article

The Link pane shows the URL of the linked article. This is also useful if you want to copy that URL, for example, to paste it elsewhere.

To open the linked article, in the Link pane, click the Link URL and the article opens in Zendesk Help Center.

Opening the Article that Holds the Link

The Link pane shows the article that holds the link. If the link is in more than one article, these are all listed in the Link pane.

To open an article that holds the link:

  1. In the Link pane, click the Article Title, or click the Edit icon that displays next to the Article Title.
080 Link Pane Click Article Title.gif
  2. The article opens in Zendesk Help Center. You can then locate the link within this article and, if required, make changes to it in Zendesk.

Click the Change Link URL button to change the article that the link opens.

Where an article has been linked to in more than one article, this changes all the links. This is useful, for example, if a new article has been created for a topic, and you want to change all the existing links so they open the new updated article.

  1. If needed, find the URL of the new link that you want to use.
  2. In the Links page, click on the row to open the Link pane for that link.
Where the link has been included in more than one article, the Link pane shows all of these.
  3. Click the Change Link URL button.
The Edit Link URL pop-up opens.
  4. Type or paste the new URL for the link.
  5. Click Save and Push to Zendesk.

Note: Adding a link using the Change Link URL adds the link as a URL. If you prefer to add links so these show in the Zendesk Help Center Insert/Edit Link pop-up with the Category and Section information, you will need to make any changes in Zendesk.
Warning: Making changes with the Edit Link URL or Edit Link Text in Help Center Manager is not compatible with Content Blocks. This is due to Zendesk's API limitation.
If you change an article that has Content Blocks enabled, and then click Save and Push to Zendesk, this will convert the content of the Content Block to normal text in that specific article.
If this happens, you need to re-enable the Content Block and re-publish that article from Zendesk.
Warning: If there are any unpublished changes to the article in Zendesk, these changes will be lost if you update and save the article in Help Center Manager and push the changes to Zendesk.

From the Link pane, you can change the text that displays for a link in a particular article. This is useful, for example, if the Title of the linked article has changed, but the link has not been updated to reflect the updated Title.

  1. In the Links page, click on the row to open the Link pane for that link.
Where the link has been included in more than one article the Link pane shows all of these.
  2. Click the Edit icon next to the Link Text.
082 Link Pane Click Link Text.gif
  3. This opens the Edit Link Text pop-up. 083 Link Pane Edit Link Text.gif
  4. Make your changes to the text that displays for that link in the relevant article.
  5. Click Save and Push to Zendesk

If the link is used in more than one article, these are all shown in the Link pane so you can check any others that need changing and click the Link Text edit for each in turn.

Note: If you have used formatting directly on the links (such as bold and/or italic) rather than applying a formatting to links in a CSS file, changing the full Link Text in the Edit Link Text pop-up may remove the formatting.
